She was a designer, singer and performer and broke down barriers in the field of music. Her job as an Mexican American celebrity was traditional and contemporary. She brought Tejano to mainstream fame in an innovative way. It was an emerging star but her sudden death broke it. And as is common with a great, welcoming and promising artist dies early, people mourned her talent and potential which she had to fulfill. Fans have worked harder throughout time to keep her legacy alive. Selena's tragic death by shooting resulted in a reaction within the Latino community that was similar in the aftermath of the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was a hugely loved Latino singer across North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and touched the hearts of both young people and older adults. The flamboyant and sexy stage actor who was often called Selena, the Latina Madonna Selena was nonetheless seen as a role model on stage she was a family-oriented actively involved in anti-drug campaigning as well as AIDS awareness programmes.
